| 1 | The 1-year dropout rate is dropouts divided by enrollment for grades 9-12. | | 2 | The 4-year derived dropout rate is an estimate of the percent of students who would drop out in a four year period based on data collected for a single year. Asterisks in the 4-year column indicate the rate could not be calculated because one or more grade levels had zero enrollment. |
| | Note: | In 2002-03 the California Department of Education started using the National Center for Education Statistics
dropout criteria. |

 |
| | The number of students, by ethnicity,
who drop out of school in a given year. In 2002-03 the California Department of Education began using the NCES
(National Center for Education Statistics) definition of dropout. In simple terms, that is students enrolled in
grades 7 to 12 who left before the end of the year and did not return by a specified date in the next year.
For a detailed definition, see the CDE's
dropout criteria. |
