We've enhanced the site with more robust help options, including self-paced trainings to guide you through the tool and instructions for Mac users. We also improved the readability and printability of the templates in response to feedback from last year.
This new service is part of Ed-Data's ongoing mission to help schools and local education agencies in their use and communication of data. The CDE, the Fiscal Crisis & Management Assistance Team, and EdSource are all founding partners of the publicly funded Ed-Data site, which has presented financial, demographic, and performance data on California's public schools for more than a decade.
The goals of the project are to both reduce the burden on school staff and help assure the quality and consistency of the data.
The SARC, which is required by state law, contains a combination of data collected at the state and local levels. Its purpose is to provide parents and the community information about each public school, enable schools to report progress in achieving goals, and help the public evaluate and compare schools on a variety of indicators.
The SARC templates on Ed-Data are a free option local schools can use to help them prepare their SARCs. After downloading the pre-populated templates, school officials will complete them with local data, and then publish them both in print and online. The CDE will continue to make full database files available to schools and organizations that prepare their SARCs using other services.
The deadline for publishing SARCs is February 1, 2013.
